Wireless Connections
A new test Wireless program has begun on the 3rd and 4th
floor of Barton and Lundgren Residence Halls. The service will
function exactly like familiar wireless networks around campus.
For help with this please visit
CITES' wireless support pages. This new
Wireless program will be tested in these two halls, and if successful,
will be expanded to the rest of the halls.
In the rest of the halls wireless connections are NOT allowed or available in residence hall rooms,
but there are wireless access points available in certain Housing areas, as well as in
buildings across campus. Housing is continually adding wireless access points in public
areas. For information on public access point locations in Housing and other buildings
across campus, as well as information on how to connect to them, please see
CITES' wireless support pages.
To connect to campus wireless access points, you need a wireless network adapter
capable of supporting the 802.11b wireless standard. 802.11g network adapters
are backward compatible with the 802.11b standard, and will also connect to UIUCnet
wireless. For more information, see
CITES' wireless FAQ.

Housing currently provides wireless access in select public locations across campus. To
identify a wireless hotspot, look for a sign similar to the one to the right. Hotspots
are currently available in many public areas (lounges, dining, laundry,
classrooms, etc) of Allen, BE, Clark,
Daniels, FAR, Goodwin & Green, Gregory Drive, ISR, LAR, PAR, Peabody Drive,
and Sherman, TVD, Weston Exploration offices & classrooms.
